So far this year my crappie fishing has been "average," at best... until yesterday. Chickamauga Lake water temps have climbed to 63 (+ or -) and shallow water spawning crappie are firing up.
Yesterday we caught 37 in four hours, all trolling. Today we had 23 trolling in 2.5 hours... then we switched over and started casting Crappie Magnet jigs under floats in 4-8 feet of water and it was game on. We finished out a 3-man limit, along with a nice bonus bass. That's actually the best I've done fishing jigs/floats in a while (although I really don't do it a lot). I LOVE watching a float flip over or dive, and then a big black crappie in all his spawning-colors glory fight his way to the boat. :super:
Best of all I was with one of my favorite regular clients, Clint Bailey, and his brother, Cody. Clint is from Lynchburg, TN. I'll let you check out the photo of my "tip" below and figure out where he works. arty:
