I will be getting the Lead Sled and some weights when I go back.
One piece of advice I may offer is to be very careful of using a lead sled when excessive recoil is involved and you are checking/confirming POA/POI. I had a good friend that learned this lesson the hard way a few years back. He made the switch from Win Ext Range to Nitros (
from a lot of recoil to A LOT OF RECOIL). He did not want to shoot the Nitros at paper in his normal hunting position (
sitting down shooting off knee as we do in the woods) because of the recoil issue. He proceeded to pattern the Nitros with his lead sled to avoid the recoil while also seeing how they pattern and confirm POA=POI. Everything looked great on paper, great pattern and POA=POI, so he went hunting. After missing SIX long beards, all gimme shots less than 35 yards, in 2-3 weeks, he called me, venting like he!! and explained his case. I suggested he check his POA/POI
without the lead sled as I believed it would be different. Sure enough, his POI without the lead sled was
8" higher than with the lead sled. Couple this with the fact that most all shells shoot somewhat different than other shells through exact same setups and it is not hard to see why each of us should practice exactly as we plan to hunt, or as close as feasibly possible. It was a tough lesson for him, but something he and I both learned from. Just passing this along in hopes no one else has to learn this lesson the way he did.
