Planning on going up to fort campbell this year for the first time. I understand it can be a pain getting your area. Any suggestions on when to get application in and how to go about getting an area. Also i will be driving a ways, Is there camping there or do you have to stay in hotels/cabins? thanks

Go to www.fortcampbellmwr.com and go to hunting page. Read over the call in proceedures and the regulations. There is a permit request form you fill out and send in. You must have a hunter education reqardless of age and all firearms must be registed on post this year. The permit prices went up again this year.

To register your firearm you must go in person to the Gate 4 visitor center with the weapon info and your drivers license. We use an automated call in system, depending on your status you call in 2 days prior to the day you want to hunt at certain times to reserve an area. Active duty and dependents start to call in at 0800, Disabled veterans start to call in at 0900, Military retirees and Dept of Defense employees start to call in at 1000 and Civilians and everyone else start to call in at 1030.

We have cabins/cottages for rent and campgrounds for RVs near there. Find out when you will be going and make reservations for the cabins, earlier the better. Most of the cabins are gone already for the first 2 weeks in November. Just because you reserve a cabin doesn't mean you will get an area so keep that in mind.

It's tough to get an area sometimes but if you have some patience and luck you can get in. Buying the permit doesn't mean you will get an area either, there is no guarantee that you will get to hunt.

There is another thread on Tndeer about the Fort with alot of people that hunt there.

Good luck and if you have more questions call the office there at 270-798-2175. We are open 7:30-4:30 but close for lunch at 1:00-1:30 daily.

Can you give us any insight on why we now have to register guns? Price increases are normal in anything, but to double it in one lick?

Well it was in the Army regs before but it wasn't ever really enforced unless you took a firearm inside the gated area, but in June 2011 they updated the regs and they had to start enforcing it even in the back areas.
The price increase was so drastic b/c they know people would pay it and if they don't then oh well no big deal. I've heard people to include civilians and military, that would like it to be increased to $100 or more.

Will we be required to come in at gate 4 every time, or after we resister the gun one time it is good to go as long as I have the document?

As far as I know it's just one time per year, unless they allow it to be forever. Call the weapon registration office at 270-798-5047.
