Just my opinion, but I kinda have come to the conclusion that you could use most any gun / load combo considered enough, most any call type or brand ( turkeys mood matters much more) , most any camo pattern or nothing but drab greens ,grays and browns and not notice a big difference in your success or failure but the one thing that really can make or break my hunting is a seat/back pad. So heres my seat checklist. comfortable for long sits, waterproof, quiet, light, portable (easy to get around in the woods with), cool and durable. I've tried everything in creation and the only thing that comes close that I've found is a heavy duty wheel barrow inner tube clipped to my belt with a pcs of paracord (so I don't run off and leave it) and for the back rest a pcs of ethafoam sheet clipped to the back of my shirt or vest or coat. I'll never quit looking for something better so tell me what you got.

Gobbler lounger with a Claw sling for carrying. It balances out my shotgun on my right side and is comfortable to carry with the Claw.

I can stay still a LOT longer in one compared to any seat cushion I have used. And, with one, you don't have to be propped up on a tree to be comfortable, although I usually try to sit in front of one to better break up my outline and to protect my rear from idiots.

Yep turkey chair with claw sling. Only thing I don't like is it's not good on the side of a hill or anything with a slope. Otherwise it's great. I also use a knight & Hale Run n Gun vest with a pretty thick seat. Still doesn't top the chair but not bad either.

I finally had to break down a couple years ago to find something to sit on after decades of not using anything. I tried the gobbler lounger, and while it's incredibly comfortable, it's just too bulky to hunt the way I like to hunt. I settled on the RnG vest with padded seat cushion. Pretty comfortable, though I have a billion holes in it after just a couple seasons.

Like most everything, there's more than one way to look at this. For a young man that's on the move covering a ton of ground to find a gobbler, where he is on the bird and it can happen fast a seat ain't as important. But for an moldy oldie like me, I spend alot more time on my ass than my feet in the woods anymore, that comfortable seat is critical. I hunt public a lot and a bird may not talk, but he will still come and look, you don't want him to see you wiggling around.

I mentioned that Tom Turpin book in another thread, I don't think I've ever seen so much good information transferred in so few words as Turpin did. In like a page and a half in that little booklet he pretty much covers turkey hunting. His answer to the seat thing was sewing sheet rubber into the seat of his pants to stay dry. His camo was buying a 10 cent pack of dye and fixing up his dead grass color hunting suit like they had back then.

Yo are exactly right on the gun, load, call, camo. I had a good friend that I hunted with for years (now deceased) that had a plain old 870, no sight except the front bead, no special turkey loads or turkey chokes, mediocre caller and camo washed till it was almost white. But you better believe if a turkey gobbled within his hearing that turkey was in trouble and usually rode home with us in the truck. As far as the seat goes I have been looking for the perfect seat all my life. Still looking. The gobbler lounge is very good but I move a lot and don't want to carry the weight around. I do use it for deer hunting when I plan to sit for long time.
