I don't get into these things much, but I'm iced in today and came across this espn article. I find it interesting how many of the most elite college recruits over the past few years were "NR" in the espn300 rankings out of high school... Including Todd Gurley, Johnny Manziel, Sam Bradford, Marcus Mariota, RGIII, Luke Kuechly, and others. MANY more were not ranked very high but went on to have awesome college careers. Just a thought with all of the recent recruiting squabbling, especially since the recruiting services can't even agree on who had the best class, much less who the best players are.

They had lots of NR players on this list including Rolando McClain, Carlos Hyde, etc.
TCU and Oregon do pretty well with classes ranked outside of the top 10. There are several perennial top 10 class teams that do not compete for the NC every year.

I'm not saying that recruiting ain't important, just that there is not always a lot of difference between a #1 class and a #10 class. Lots of times it's those diamonds-in-the-rough prospects that receive no accolades that really round out a great recruiting class.

You gotta have good coaches, Game planning and recruit players that fit your system to make them diamond in the rough players stand out.

You also see A lot of 4* and 5* players never shine not because they were bad players or had no talent its because they Could not stay outta trouble and focus, or they was not well coached or used in the right way.

Oregon does a very good Job at recruiting speedy players that fit there system and coaching them up the right way.

FSU has had recruiting classes in the top 5 for the last 5 years and has had at least 30 kids drafted the last 3 years . This year 12 have been invited to the combine and will set a 3 year record for the most drafted. They also have finished in the top 5 at the end of the year .If you are going to finish in the top 10 and have a chance for a national title you better have top ranked classes in recruiting.I wouldn't pay to much attention to ESPin unless you are in the SEC. ESPIN owns college football and the bowls. You also need a good coach to make the players play to their potential. Like Saban Fisher ,Miles Richt and cough ,cough, meyer. Look at the NC's and check their recruiting classes. You won't win them all cause you must also have luck.
