I'm fairly new to turkey hunting but wanted to get some expert opinion on what the birds are doing in my area of TN. I'm in the Clarksville area stationed at FT Campbell so right on the state line. Do yall think we are in the "lull" between peak gobbling end of march and picking back up again mid April? Opening weekend on the Fort was 26March and there was plenty of gobbling then thru 9April. I've noticed after that it got real quiet, is that due to timing or pressure or maybe both? Some reading I was doing suggest the lull could last a couple weeks or so (one article suggested it should start picking up again Mid april though), does that mean this weekend I should expect lockjawed birds?
Any info/opinion is greatly appreciated, trying to set my expectation management for the next week or so!

In my area the gobbling goes way down when the dogwoods bloom for about 2 weeks. Then it will pick up a little bit not like early season. My wife killed yesterday and this turkey gobbled 6 times in 45 minutes which is way better than none. Really u just have to go and see. Everyday is different.

I'm way south of you but weather dependent, the next 5-7 days will be as good as it's gonna get before things start steadily sliding downhill.

In our area of west TN turkeys got lockjaw this week. I hope that changes this weekend but I'm doubtful. I'm still going and hoping for the best.

In my area in northeast Tn the birds are just now starting to gobble after fly down. Still less than normal but I have heard a few gobbles in the last 5 days or so.

Thanks for all the replies, definitely going to try it this weekend and hope for the best, at least it will be nice out in the woods

I'm in Hickman county, and birds have been gobbling about the same for a little more than a week now. Good on the roost and then sporadic until 7-730 then quiet the rest of the day. Still no gobbling mid morning which I don't get, but WAY better the the first week - plus of the season when I heard not one gobble.

I haven't heard a bird on the roost this morning. Warm and windy where I am.

I have heard exactly ONE bird gobble on the ground this yr. He gobbled until the magblends went straight by his head and he flew off... Everything here has gobbled decent on the roost, then shut up once their feet hit the ground. Worst season I have had in awhile.

Heard 1 half hearted gobble this morning. I saw 14 hens. All in singles. I did find one strutter at 12 pm all alone. I snuck as close as I could. 100 yards. Nothing between me and him but dirt so I called real lightly to him. He came out of strut and proceeded to walk directly away. Uh oh I think he's heard that before. Weird day all in all.

Brewer88 I hunted today on the cheatham Montgomery line. After flydown I heard one bird gobbling like mad. He was way off the farm I hunt. For a while I thought maybe it was a jake. Anyway out of six I heard gobbling on the roost only that one did so afterward.
