You know the one...the season wrecker. Days turn into weeks while fooling with the same ornery bird, it's downright aggravating and yet, I roll out of bed sleep-deprived to do it all over again.

How did you finally kill that bird that had been giving you fits?

Don't ask :D !

I actually named him that while I chased him those three weeks. I have a LONG, detailed spin of those three weeks, but I won't hijack your thread.

Let's just say the turkey gods figured I had suffered enough and sacrificed him, but it still ended with my being on top of him and having to strangle him to end it!

The Ghost.... and got plum lucky. He died because 2 jakes gave him away on opening morning. 1.5 inch sharp hooks on him and very thick 10 in beard...

I'll let you know in a couple weeks ! LORD willing. I've got two on neighboring properties that I've been hunting for two years now, that have caused me some fits. I think I've got a good plan this year though...

I had one that I named just that. I messed with him for 3-4 weeks and no matter what I tried, it didn't work. I'd call he'd gobble or just come in and hang up 60-80 yds out. The closest I got to him was 45 yds and with the gun and shells I had at the time, I knew I'd wound him. He was walking away from me and I just let him keep walking. I never killed him, and still think about him, but don't know what happened to him.

What's the plural of nemesis...nemesises-es? I remember way too many birds that flat drove me nuts.

Most of the really mean turkeys I recall that finally croaked at the boom of my shotgun (I believe) had relatively little to do with anything I tried but was simply their day to die and I decided to give it one more shot. After employing every trick I knew over days and weeks, for whatever reason simply staying after them finally yielded a dead bird.

Sometimes I wonder if it's not just a battle of wills; catch him in the right mood and everything comes together. Roll over and hit the snooze button, give up, and it doesn't happen. For me, these are actually the most memorable birds/hunts (as humbling as it may be).

Some of the best hunts I've had my finger didn't put any pressure on the trigger, lol. I don't mind getting beat by an old bird. What gets me is when I accidentally set up within 50 yards of where he's roosted and he gobbles at dawn and scares the bejesus outta me.
