The preseason...

Posted by a Florida fan on SECrant. Sums it up pretty well. :stir:

re: So, apparently, Grier still hasn't won the starting role just yet...(Posted on 9/29/15 at 3:06 pm to StrawsDrawnAtRandom)

Grier in the UT game:

1-10 - misses wide open Callaway over the top - perfect type of throw to be INT'd by safety, but luckily, safeties were playing too wide to take advantage.

3-6 - leaves the pocket after 1 second didn't even look to pass - leads to punt (pressure was not that bad).

Punt

1-10 - behind Jake Mcgee on roll out, jake makes a great catch spinning around and takes it for a first down

Only pass of drive - 3 straight runs = TD by Kelvin Taylor

2-3, UT blitzes, picked up, CJ worton is open underneath - Grier dumps it down, Worton not even looking. Weird play.

3-3, no pressure, easy throw in 5 yard out, timing is completely off with Grier and Callaway, misses what should have been an EASY first down.

Punt

1-10, some pressure, doesn't even look to pass, runs right into sack

2-15, no pressure, good pass on a short 5 yard in by Brandon Powell working left to right, 7 yards after catch on well timed throw, 3-3 to go now.

Kelvin Taylor running play on 3rd down - gained 2, needed 3

Punt

After 3 runs and a first down

1-10 DRob 7 yard curl - first read, easy pass, good pass and catch - gains 9

2-1, audibles at the line (sees blitz) hits Callaway on easy 5 yard curl, good pass and catch, gains 4 more after catch

1-10, 5 yard out to Callaway moving left to right, good pass, Callaway just alligator arms it. INCOMPLETE

2-10 UT blitzes, Mcgee left open on short 3 yard out going right to left, rumbles for 4 additional yards. Good throw.

Maybe worst play call of the day in my opinion - read option on 3-3, destroyed by UT.

Punt

1-10 after UT TD - stands in pocket, delivers great pass to Callaway in middle of the field - 13 yard gain

1-10 throws slightly behind Callaway as he runs right to left across the field - deflected - good defense - INCOMPLETE

3-13 - after loss on a run by taylor - late to Brandon Powell on a little hook route, he takes it 11 of the needed 13 yards, but can't get a first down. An earlier throw may have been a first down here.

4-2 great pass on roll out to Jake Mcgee - gain of 13 - big first down

2nd worst play call of game due to timing - trick play doesn't work avlin bailey pass inc

2-10 miscommunication with WR Antonio Callaway, throws deep, but WR broke it off short

3-10 overthrows simple out to Jake Mcgee - good throw is probably a first down

Punt

1-10 after UT FG - perfect back shoulder throw to Callaway against a really good corner.

1-10 (after a few runs) no one open, barnett gets pressure, Grier takes off for a couple yards

2-7 Does not look of safety, terrible throw and read - INT

INT

So lets recap the first half:

On 21 drop backs - (please note he was not under a lot of pressure the line played pretty well)

He was 10-18, 115 yards, 1 INT
3 runs, -5 yards (1 sack)

of his 8 misses,
1 overthrow on first down - first play of game
2 of them were very simple third down routes that he simply missed.
2 were dropped by WR
1 was a miscommunication
1 is a horrible read and INT at a really bad time
1 is a PBU on a good play by corner

To look even closer, on third down: 1-3, 11 yards, 1 rush -5 yards rushing, 1 sack 0-4 third down conversions with the ball in his hand. 1-1 4th down for 13 yards and 1 conversion. 2 of his misses on 3rd down were simple missed opportunities.

Take what you want from this. I will do the 2nd half when I have time.

Point is though, a lot of opportunities were left on the field because of unforced errors in this half in the passing game.

In his second career start... We have always said he will make mistakes. Thanks for trying though. :tu:

Just pointing out that some Florida fans realize the kid had a not so stellar game. He young though. Probably be at the Heisman presentation ceremony. :poke:

He didn't have a stellar game. Never said that. But he came through big when he needed. Unlike Butch and Dobbs. :tu:

CJM put him in a position to succeed when it mattered the most and no matter how bad he looked during the game(pretty sad BTW), he made it count.

Dobbs came thru the whole game. You were there, you saw it. UFs vaunted run defense didnt know what to do until the play calling got so predictable and even then Dobbs picked up some yards. Same goes for Hurd. Tell me that either one are not straight up athletes.

Questionable coaching calls were made and TN lost but dont try to tell me that Josh Dobbs didnt play well enough to win. He wasnt a spectacular Tom Brady- esque QB but he played more than well enough to beat UF. Coaching and a sorry defense in the final minutes lost UT that game.

When I say Dobbs didn't come through, he didn't. He played well but when we was stopping the run he couldn't make the throws to beat us. A reason TN wr never gets used!!! All the 5* ratings means nothing if your qb cant throw it to them. So yeah he didn't come through when it counted.

Hurd is a beast! Always said that. But honestly Butch better figure out a passing game. Because teams will play them like we did in the 4th qtr. We adjusted in the 2nd half but missed tackles killed us in the 1st half. You can disagree all you want. That's fine.

TN led 27-14 before the defensive meltdown in the 4th. Josh Dobbs had something to do with that. He played well enough to win. He was not on the field when the D gave up 4 and a mile. He made throws on the final drive and moved the ball down field. He had them in position for a decent field goal attempt and then Butch Jones happened. A flag not thrown for UF with 12 men on and a sorry azz clock operator didnt help any. He was not on the field when Medly barely missed a 55 yrd attempt either.

Greir is bouncing passes of off receivers heads most of the game and he hits one late(couldnt have happened at a better time for UF I will say) but Josh Dobbs didnt play well enough to win?

BTW you have never said Hurd was a beast. You have never said anything positive about him as a matter of fact

I said it last week that he was going to be a tough match up... But my point is, Grier will only get better as he moves forward, Dobbs has hit his ceiling. He isn't a good passer. Runner YES Passer NO. That's why in the link it shows he is moving down the list. As he was high preseason picked. As bad as u may hate it oh well. Like I said u can disagree. #12STRAIGHT

Give the boy a break TMS. Trey's probably coming to realize that his team was exposed Saturday. When a .500 team with zero passing game and a mediocre O-line can hang 250+ rushing yards on you...well, that sorta speaks for itself. A good team with balance will have a field day with 'em. :smash: :stir: ;)

:rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: guess you have realized that preseason is over and your team was exposed from game 1... UF oline is worse than TN, UF wr is worse than TN. What does that tell you??? Nice try though!!! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

:rotf: Good one...

Dobbs is a hell of an athlete, just hasn't been throwing it very well lately. The sc game from last year was on replay the other day and he made LOTS of great throws in that comeback. Seems like he throws better and Is more comfortable on the run or under a lil pressure.
