He crumbled under the pressure of TSS.

I went in blind this morning and haven't even been to the club since fall planting. Heard one bird gobble one time from the roost and went toward him. He went away from me initially and I figured he was with hens but didn't hear them. I made 2 big moves on him and eventually he had worked back to where I thought I could move and kill him. He ended up pitching up and over a briar patch and landing to far to my right side and I had to watch him and let him walk off. I let him gobble on his own to make sure he was out of sight and made a 15 yard move to where I could shoot him where he had just left from. He gobbled at me twice when I yelped at him and 25 minutes later he steps in the same spot he was strutting before and I was ready. This is my first tss bird and the first bird on a new call I built Wednesday.

15/16" Spurs
10 1/4" beard
19# 14 ounces

It don't sound like he was in a hurry. How far was he when he answered you?

150 or so, he was slow talking and slow moving the whole time.
