Used to be a day, up to the mid-1970s, that a bowl game was a significant accomplishment and something to strive for.

Now - there are 43 (!) FCS Div 1 bowl games. That means more than half of all Div 1 teams are going to a bowl game. 21 teams will take their impressive 6-6 record to the game, while one 6-7 team will host a bowl game (Hawai'i, taking on powerhouse Memphis - hopefully the Tigers will at least get some vacation time in during the trip).

Handful of meaningful bowl games, majority far less worthy

What a farce.

How many TV channels in the 70s were broadcasting games?

As long as there are advertisers willing to buy commercial time, there will be a game. To be a game, there has to be teams to play the game. As long as there is somebody willing to buy the product, someone will supply the product.

The good thing is that, while many don't care and may even gripe about too many games, you have the option to simply not watch.

Don't have a problem with it. Not sure what the big deal is, and what it hurts by having more bowls.

If you don't like them don't watch. I've not watched a single bowl game yet.I know some have, and have enjoyed them it doesn't bother me to the point I want them gone I just don't think it's worth caring about.
