Take into consideration much of the state had one of the biggest bumper acorn crops in years. I believe that would be the biggest factor if indeed birds are carrying more weight this year.

What says you?

I agree completely plus the fact it's very early...birds are just now busting up here in KY...3 weeks from now weights will be average..

Agree, a 3 year old bird here last year weighed a little over 22lbs opening weekend. Last weekend of season I shot a 3 year old that weighed 16lbs. He was worn out from running around. Still tasted good though.

I don't know what it is, but could be acorns. I did walk under a red oak yesterday with acorns all over under it , maybe we had more than I realized.

Despite the late season snow it was one of the mildest winters on record, that with the bumper crop of acorns ,I can see why we have such healthy birds this spring. I certainly would not call my fellow hunters a bunch of liars ..I can't believe this guy.How do you guys put up with him ,I just visit every now and then.

Every year according to people on here its the best acorn crop ever or the worse acorn crop ever.

You're right hunters and fisherman never lie. Bwahahahaha

I would hate to have you on my jury Setterman. Guilty until proven innocent..you should always give a man the benefit of the doubt before calling him a liar ,unless you catch him in it.Hunters will tell you the truth 10 different ways before they lie to ya setterman , don't know much about a fisherman. :D

Ive killed a stack of turkeys in my life, from first day of season, to the very last light on the last day. I have never killed a "wild" turkey over 23lbs. Maybe I just hunt too many mountain birds that dont raid bird feeders? Or maybe my certified scales are vastly different than those used by all the folks I see claiming to kill birds approaching 30 lbs. What I do know is , I dont get worked up over it anymore. Its just like fish, I have seen hundreds of catfish pictures, "look at this so-and-so, its at least 50 lbs!", when its clearly 30ish. AS a catfish guide, I know better, and just move along....the same way as when I see the weights on so-called wild turkeys.
