I went to the woods on Saturday. It was raining, so I decided to hunt in a blind on top of a knob that overlooks the lake. I didnt hear anything. I stayed there til 10:00 A.M. and decides to run and gun.
I eased along the edge of a field that borders the lake bottom. I would stop occasionally and cholk a little with my mouthcall. Just about the time I was ready to head to the truck, I got a gobble from the other side of the lake.
I clucked a little and he gobbled again. I decided to let him make the next move and three or four minutes later he let her rip again. The game was on.
I settled into a clump of cedars along the edge of the bottom. I waited a few minutes and he gobbled again and he was closer.
I watched the ridgeline across the lake and finally saw him moving along the edge if a steep rock wall. He got to the edge and gobbled. I made an excited cluck noise and it tore him up. He flew off of the steep wall and landed just on my side of the water.
He fanned out and let out a couple really strong gobbles. I just sat quiet. I wanted him to be the desperate bird, not me.
He strutted around and gobbled a couple more times and I decided to give him a small purr.
He walked straight to the end of my Encore barrel.
I sent a 3" #4 Remington at his head from 15-ft.
He was 24# with a 10-1/2" beard.

Sorry no pics. I was camping in Pigeon Forge and didnt bring a camera. Dang it!!!
