The Wild Turkey never ceases to amaze me. This week while on a quota hunt they amazed me again. On the last morning of the hunt we had patterned a group of birds and setup on them perfectly maybe a little too perfect. As the woods started to wake up and few distance gobbles rang out. A gobbler sounded off not forty to fifty yards behind us. I managed to get turned around because of cover and for the next ten minutes I watched this gobbler hammer on the roost. After about ten minutes a hen came flying into the roost tree with the gobbler. I have never seen that in the turkey woods. The sad end to the story the gobbler flew down not 25 yards in front of me and I missed the shot.
