Has anyone else experienced this? When you shoot if you "try" you don't really hit but if you just relax and kind of "will" your arrow into the target it'll hit at or near where you were aiming. I've noticed that if I just look at the point on the target where I want the arrow to go and superimpose the pin on the target with both eyes open then at the release just "feel" the arrow into the target that it'll hit quite well but if I really buckle down and try to hit I'll be wide or high or low. It's like the more I try the worse it is but if I just don't try but "do" it goes right where I want it.
I know for some of ya'll this may sound crazy but I wonder if anyone else has noticed this at all?

Yeah. Some days it's just perfect ain't it. If only I could bottle it and reuse it.

Yeah I know the feeling. I shot JOAD for years. During tournaments Id visualize my next "end" or 3 arrows then go and shoot them. Archery helped my mental toughness a lot in other sports and life.

Furthermore, Justin Hewitsch (sp?) coach told him if he was content to shoot the way he did in practice then hed win...he won gold in ATL in '96.

The quote

"One arrow, one life" as an oriental proverb comes to mind to.

Personally, now, my zen is after a rough day going and shooting by myself for a half hour and giving my body time to process and decompress.

Sorry for the long post but archery truely is a great sport and has been a big part of my life. I love hunting and killing, but I also just enjoy shooting a bow on a nice day.

I'm right there with yall. Some days it is the most relaxing activity. Other days I want to throw my bow in the woods. But when it's good it's GOOD.

I wish I could find some Zen right now with my hunting bow...
The older I get the more bad habits take me over...I put my target bow away cause indoor 3D is over so out comes my hunting bow for outdoor 3D and everything past 40 yards is somewhat moving on me...LOL!!
I guess I have to realize I'm not a young gun anymore and shoot within my ability of 40 yards...
A bright note is I'm still shooting....

I'm getting better BUT it's strange. I'll hit good with two then pull one. I think I'm torquing my bow sometimes. I really need to get that Hind Sight to keep things lined up. It's like I'll pull off to the left or right but the elevation is fine. Just need another ref. point to keep things pointing straight at the target.

Your best shots and rounds will always come when you let the bow shoot itself. 9 times out of 10 when you miss or go off target, its operator error. Of course it takes mechanics for it to be consistent, but when we miss, its usually always our own fault by trying to push the arrow in. Learning to shoot with back pressure was the best thing i ever did....cause you never know when your shot is going to take place!

I'd really love to get together with some of ya'll for a day of just hangin' out and shooting. Either targets, stumps or whatever but I think I could maybe pick up a few tips and learn a bit from just hangin' with some of the people that's shot compounds for a while.
Most of what I've done over the last several years was traditional, instinctive with a recurve and longbow using home fletched/built wooden arrows.
Using a compound is like night and day over my old recurve. I'm actually hitting(not as well as I'd like but I'm working on it) at 40 yrds, no way could I do that consistently with my recurve.
I know pickin' up somekind of rear sight(not a peep, don't like to mess with my string,LOL) like the ProMaster Fine Line or maybe a Hind Sight would help me a lot since I think most of my "problems" is because of bow torque more then anything else.
I am actually having a lot of fun shooting this time around though, it doesn't feel like "work" like it did with my recurve.
