Threw in the towel

Heard 2 gobble about 5 times a piece this morning got close to the first one and heard his hens. He gobbled one time on the ground and they disappeared on me. The second Tom never gobbled on the ground, and we could never locate him again. We headed home about 10:30.

Oh yea great trip with great time spent with my brother. I wasn't expecting much going in blind somewhere I'd never seen. 2 of the 5 we heard were very killable had we known the lay of the land but that's part of it.

Three of my buddies hunted Chuck Swan this first hunt and 2 of them rolled birds but they got way. They said 7 were checked in yesterday.

Sounds like they had them pinned down, we couldn't get close enough to but one before they quit gobbling to pinpoint them. We had one that should have died on day one but he wouldn't crest the little knoll in the woods. The lack of scouting hurt us. I guess we just didn't try the right areas.

Naw, we decided when we checked out we were making the 5 hour drive home. We will try it again, but with scouting next time. I just wasn't hunting non gobbling turkeys another day, on a place I didn't have a clue where to start.

I did see a few deer and struck up a conversation with an older local gentleman. I asked if they had armadillos yet and I got the notion he thought I was lying. I told him I'd bring them a truckload next time I came up
