im thinking about changing from trigger/index finger to the t-handle thumb release, how many ppl have use of one or any input would be appriciated.

Back tension . I have a great starter back tension for sale ;) . But if I had to chose between an index and a thumb , I would pick a thumb trigger . A lot easier to shoot with back tension vs. punching with a thumb trigger.

is the anchor point diffrerent? ive been shooting index finger for 15 yrs and just didn know if the change would work

yea i know, i took this weekenf off work to rebuild my deck but weather didn allow that lol so once i finish ill def give u a shout, thx for the invite.

Your anchor will be different . But your shooting will improve eventually if you stick with a back tension for long enough.

I used one (Carter Chocolate Addiction) extensively to work on back tension, and I still work with it even though my Scott Mongoose (wrist/index)is still my go to release in most situations. The T handle made me a better archer whether or not I am using it or the Index release.

I have used an index release for years, and still do. However, years ago I switched from using my index finger to using my middle finger and drastically shortened the release to where it is deep in my second knuckle and that pretty much eliminated any punching I did and gave me much better feel and consistency. I use that for all hunting, and always will I think. This year though, for 3D I am switching to a Stan Element which is a pull through back-tension release that is virtually impossible to cheat, unlike the hinge-style releases.

My advice is to go with what is best for youdifferent methods or different releases and go with the one that is the most comfortable and gives you the highest degree of confidence.

I started shooting a hinge style release this year. These are commonly referred to as back tension releases. It's a Scott Longhorn III.

The hinge release did change my anchor point. I had to increase my draw length 1/2" inch.

Since I want to hunt with a release that has a similar anchor point as my Scott Longhorn I bought a Stan Shootoff which is a thumb.

There is a technique that allows one to fire a thumb trigger with back tension. That's how I'm executing shots with my thumb trigger and I'm now shooting better than ever.

Here is a group from 40 yards yesterday. This is with my Hoyt Spyder Turbo which is a 6" brace height bow. I work on my form daily and am starting to get very positive results!!!

You can hunt with a back tension release, and some certainly do with success but I will advise against it for various reasons. Most hunt with a thumb trigger or index trigger release and noise levels will vary with different brands and styles. It is a falsehood that one type of release is louder than another type.

Keep in mind when referring to a back tension release, as back tension is more of a process than it is a type of release. The hinge-style releases are what most people call back-tension releases, but you can make them fire several different ways other than back tension. The closest thing to a true back-tension release is a pull through release such as the Stan Element or the Carter Evolution. You set them to a slightly higher weight than what you are holding and the only way for them to fire is to reach that pre-set poundage.

Guess i havnt done enough research lol is a thumb trigger different? Whats a good one to look at for hunting purposes
