The past year has been the busiest and most stressful time in a long time. I have been going non-stop and shooting my bow has taken a back seat. I still have about 5 weeks of a very busy schedule and then I can focus on bow season. Problem? I should have started several weeks ago. Solution? Not sure.

I need to shoot at least 5 days a week until archery season. Order new arrows, figure out what broad heads I am really going to use and get focused. I shot last night and at 20-25 yards I can kill deer all day. Of course the farthest I have killed a deer with a bow is only 33 yards so probably not a big deal, except my confidence is NOT where it should be. At 30 yards my groups fell apart so I know I am out of shape.

Tree stands to hang, probably around 7-10, maybe more. Move a few ladder stands. Food plots at the end of the month need to be done. and to much more to list.

I guess I wake up a .5 hour ealier stay up a little later and chip away at it. One thing I know, I will be ready. It's showtime.

Good luck!!i've been shooting everyday for the past couple weeks, not alot just about 6 arrows a day,and here this past week I put a ladder stand up in the yard and have been shooting out of it.

Your dang right. I am the same rich. I have plenty more work ahead of me. Putting more stands out, food plots here in a few weeks, but most importantly....to practice shooting more than I have. I JUST started.

I started shooting last week. First couple of nights were 15 yard shots, only slingin about a dozen arrows. I've backed up to shooting some at 30 yards. Believe it or not, this year my groups at 30 yards have really tightened up. My goal is to shoot a dozen arrows at least 3 times a week until the season opener. I do need to get my butt out and scout. I say I'm gonna do my scouting following season and never follow through.

Good luck Rich. There have been several seasons where I didn't hunt for a week or two into the season, because I just wasn't ready. Either not shooting enough didn't get broadheads tuned in or whatever. So be patient, don't rush it. The last thing you want is to go out there lacking confidence and lose a deer and then you just want to quit. So, don't put yourself in that position. Patience pays off. Remember this is fun. Don't make it no fun. I've been there too.

I feel ya rich. I've got arrows and a new string and cables, but now I have to find the time to shoot/tune. I haven't shot anything but blank bale since.....well I don't remember. Life comes first. Good luck getting everything squared away.

I had shoulder surgery at the beginning of the summer, I haven't touched my bow all summer! For me personally, shooting a bow is like riding a bike, once you have learned, you never forget.

Although I agree with the physical the mental when shooting at an animal is where I need to be the strongest. Shooting at foam is nothing when I shoot an animal I want to make sure I have the utmost respect and confidence in my gear and my mental game.

Rich...dont over do it man...you'll do worse than good.
#1 Make sure your pins are where you want them.
#2 Fling a dozen arrows every other day to help re-build your posturing and muscle memory. "DONT OVER DO IT"
Take your time when you practice.......QUALITY is better than quantity!
#3 Get your other stuff done
#4 Show me pictures of all the deer you kill

I'm in the same boat , Rich . I have had too much going on to even think about shooting much . With my job transfer prospects put on hold for now , it looks like I will be hunting here in Tn. this fall .
Let me know if you need help hanging stands . I'm up to the task . :)

Yeah he did. My old boss often said "luck favors the well prepared". He was right too.

I agree , you have to make your own luck .
Preparation includes planting food plots ,scouting, studying topo maps and preparing stand stand sites during the offseason .
I think Rich will have a very lucky season this year as well as many of the members of this forum who prepare for the season in advance .

I'm glad I'm not the only one way behind! I may go buy a new (used) bow this weekend, so it will really be a push to get everything going smoothly. Can't wait to hear my girlfriend complain about how much time I'm spending elsewhere

I enjoy scouting as much as I do bowhunting . It's fun to find out what those terrain features look like that appear good on a topo map or aerial photo .
