Can't remember anything on hunting birds in the wind. I will be out all day tomorrow and monday morning hoping to fill a tag. Gonna be a windy day though... will they stick to the woods more?

just depends on the terrain and the birds really. The worst part about hunting the wind is you cant hear anything!

In my spots the birds tend to get down in bottoms, or in the woods in spots that are somewhat covered. Ive had decent success in the wind but i really hate not being able to hear.

My advice is to walk much slower if you are around looking for them because you wont be able to hear them very well and you may walk right up on them before you see them and then its too late.

Wind sucks if you are like me and refuse to ambush birds. Sniping is for deer season, not turkey season.

I stay at home, there are enough non windy days and I have the ability to choose

Of course, you can't hear, but right now since they are dead silent on my place anyway, what difference does it make! I don't like to hunt the woods in heavy wind, because its dangerous. I commonly hear stuff fall that could put the hurt on you, big time!

thanks. I definitely will ambush a bird if I can't call him in. I guess I'll just keep my ears wide open and hope I can catch a gobble once in a while and always keep an eye out while on the move.

yeah hearing SUCKS, if you do hear one they are 10x harder to pin point where the sound came from.

Good luck. I hate hunting in the wind more then fishing in the wind, but you do what you have to do on the days you can do it.

The drumming this morning was impossible to pinpoint, however what my target didn't realize was that he had matched wits with yoda, and I put the Jedi mind trick on his ladies. They sleep single tonight...

Walk and stalk. The wind is a killer to call's,but can be a huge help when stalking. You'd be surprised at what you can get away with in the wind. I belly crawled across an open grass field to get to a lone stutter in the wind once. Got within 60 yards,he had no clue.

Set up in the mouth of a big holler and employ a good box call. Plan on being there a while. And plan on him coming in without you hearing him.

Well from my experience over the entire day yesterday and this morning, gobbling was scarce during the day but I could get very close to them on the roost. Wind was not steady, just came in gusts. Move more when it gusts, move less when it's calm. Got within 20-30 yards of roosting birds as they flew up yesterday evening, and this morning in a different roosting area I got right underneath a hen and 10 yards from a roosted gobbler. You can guess what happened to that bird.....
