Byrd should have been offered three coaches ago.
However, Barnes is a great hire for where UT bball is at currently. If he can solidify recruiting, and have some decent years, then he can set up the program for a good while, even if he decides to retire.

no final fours out of all those trips to the dance with excellent talent=underachieving. Rick Byrd is a ut grad and an over achiever with the players he has had. I don't think Barnes is a bad hire at all, I'm just disappointed they didn't give Byrd a chance. He would probably LOVE to coach the vols!! I think a lot of Byrd, and some big school is gonna get a HELLUVA coach when he gets his chance.
