Rick Byrd would be a better choice imo.

Byrd should have been offered three coaches ago.

However, Barnes is a great hire for where UT bball is at currently. If he can solidify recruiting, and have some decent years, then he can set up the program for a good while, even if he decides to retire.

Dave Hart is one lucky dude :D !

The real reason he was let go at Texas, the AD told Barnes he was gonna have to fire some assistant coaches but he would keep his job.Barnes told the AD it was his fault and not the assistant coaches,he was not gonna fire them so they let Barnes go.I see one thing,he will sure not put any blame on his assistants and he has had Texas in the NCAA tourney 16 out of 17 years!Tennessee struck a gold mine when Barnes became avaliable!

Barnes is obviously a good coach. Ncaa tournament 16 out of 17 years or something close to that.
no final fours out of all those trips to the dance with excellent talent=underachieving. Rick Byrd is a ut grad and an over achiever with the players he has had. I don't think Barnes is a bad hire at all, I'm just disappointed they didn't give Byrd a chance. He would probably LOVE to coach the vols!! I think a lot of Byrd, and some big school is gonna get a HELLUVA coach when he gets his chance.

I don't think Byrd will get his shot, or it would have already happened. I guess his age might be scaring people off, but it doesn't make sense.

At this point, TN would love to underachieve and get to the dance 16 of 17 yrs :D !

$2.25 / year for 6 years. Good hire in my book even if he only stays 5 -10 years assuming he can solidify things and get them back to some sort of relevance.

For somebody that dont care about bball, you sure are up to date on the details.... :tu:
