Legs were sore as crap so I sleep in. Son goes to school I head to the turkey fields.
Taking my time walking up hill nine miles up the road, I get to the cattle feeders and hear turkey noise not far from them.
I get set up (thought about sitting in a cattle feeder lol) and made a soft purr and a yelp or two. I hear 2 toms fire off then I see one in strut but only see him shaking his tail fan and he was on the other side of the fence. I tried thinking how I could ease up there and get on the other side of the fence without being seen and pushing them off. Dang if I could only catch one of them cows and I could hide behind it and walk her right near close to one and shoot it that would make it so much easier. lol
Anyways I called again with just a little louder then I could tell one of the gobblers turn toward me and gobbled. Ok they know I am here so game on.
Now this was crazy. Just seconds after that one shot through the fence I could see him good had a wide beard kinda long maybe 8 or 9 inches but really thick. I said ok I will take him or heck I will take a jake just whatever comes close enough I am putting this red dot on his head.
Then following along behind the first one came like 4 more couldn't tell what they were but they were chasing him then I see the strutter come through the fence. Soon as he clears the fence I see his wide tail fan again.
I am thinking heck yeah I am fixing to get me a turkey all by myself!
There was so much movement up there and I couldn't tell what the heck they were doing. I just know my heart was racing I could see them moving around chasing each other gobbling just going nuts like I wasn't even there. Just no way for me to get to them. I called just a few times more and had some answers but nothing ever came my way.
They moved on down to the pond in the woods I tried to move in on them but I misjudge where they were and they busted my butt.
Sure was fun though.
Oh and if you lock you truck up make sure you take your keys out of the door. Don't do a bit of good with your doors locked and keys hanging in the door for anyone to unlock. :grin:
