I'm listening carefully to you Spring Chickens! I'm 81 and want to hunt as much as ever. But reality has set in when I had a stroke 29 December, 2019. I still easily remember laying there and NOT being able to move anything on my right side. Fingers, arm, leg or toes. But I remember telling myself that I'll just have to make the best of it. I still can't drive or walk without my brace and a walker but I am so blessed and thankful to GOD that I'm able to use a walker instead of a wheelchair! Maybe I'll make it to TN for turkey and will try my best to make it for deer season. Have made it for last two years for deer. Have a dream of making it for crappie spawning season and then during same trip doing turkey. Maybe? There is a thin line between being determined and being stubborn and I lean to the stubborn side but my therapist says that's what has got me this far.
The Grace of GOD is the major factor but three years of exercising didn't hurt. And I give GOD the credit for supplying my motivation and desire to exercise (still close to one hour a day, except Sunday). It's not easy. So far at least, I just refuse to give up! See, the stubborn side is making itself known. I'm going to continue hunting as long as I can! GOD Bless All of You!! Ray

I used to hunt with an old guy named Ralph. He was 89 yrs old on our last deer hunt together. I was maybe 20 at the time and he has long since passed. He was always awake before anyone else and loved making sure everyone was well fed and had plenty of coffee before we set out to hunt. He was a terrible cook but I ate whatever he made with a smile because it brought him such great joy to be the patriarch of deer camp.

He could hardly see and refused to hunt with anything other than an old muzzleloader because using a modern rifle wasn't challenging enough.

It was a real celebration anytime he got a deer.

When I grow up I hope I can be like you(and Ralph). Your story is inspiring!

Keep at it Ray! I've been traveling for work all week and got back to the hotel after dinner with one of my customers earlier. really wanted to sit down and watch tv but went downstairs and got a workout in. Thanks for making me realize I made the right decision. Hope and pray you make it to TN for turkeys and crappie!

That is great that you have great determination to keep going and doing the things you love to do and thanks most of all to God to make it possible!
