Took the 4x lens off the Black Gold Ascent yesterday getting ready for hunting season. I get a vertical POI change when I remove the lens so I have to make slight adjustments to my sight.

I like to practice without the lens leading up to season.

I hunt with a 4x in my hha and love it shot deer as close as 18yrds And they are so close I can pick the hair I want to hit I want hunt with out a lens period

I've tested in low light and I can't see clearly in low light with my 4x lens. I shoot with a #1 clarifier which reduces my peep diameter to 1/8" which further hampers visibility in low light.

Heck, I don't even like a lens for tournaments. If I still deer hunted, there is no way I would try one for hunting. Like UTGrad said, the low light visibility sucks. I had to finish the Kentucky Pro/Am at "deer thirty" on the Saturday evening and I was SCREWED. I could see the targets with my regular eyes but through the lens...forget it. Not to mention all the up keep to having a lens. I've been a member on this site for a long time and for a number of years we would run a thread where we would log in with our bow kills and the yardages we killed at...then at the end of the season, we'd have the average for the year. I can't ever remember it being over 23 yards. The only reason I shoot a lens now for tournaments is because we shoot further yardages and it helps see spots or score rings at those yardages. If it were just 30 yards or closer...I wouldn't have one at all.

A big advantage to NOT having a lens is reduced perception of pin float. When I shoot with a lens the movement of my pin while holding on target is magnified. When I take off the lens the pin doesn't move as much. It's nice at close range.

If I'm not mistaken Chance shoots a 2x lens in 3D competition. I would certainly shoot with a lens on the 3D course or spots but for hunting its not needed IMO and possibly a handicap.

I shot a lens for one main reason only my eyes are so bad it crazy like a 9.5+ on my contacts so it helps me past thirty yards a lot. With out a lens my .19 pen covers the hole body of my deer target

I couldn't imagine going back to the days without my 4x. I constantly practice 50-60. Although I will admit I have missed before the closer shots are much easier. Don't know why but a clarifier didn't work for my eyes.
