High-ranking FSU attorney charged with soliciting a minor
Karl Etters , Democrat staff writer Published 1:08 p.m. ET Feb. 15, 2017 | Updated 14 hours ago

A former deputy general counsel for Florida State University has been arrested by federal authorities on charges of soliciting a minor for sex.

Dayton Cramer, 70, was arrested Tuesday and charged with attempted enticement of a minor.

FSU spokesman Dennis Schnittker said Cramer resigned prior to the university firing him. Cramer, who is married with children, was earning more than $161,575 a year at his job, which he started in 2000. He resigned in a handwritten note that did not mention his arrest.

Undercover agents posted an ad posing as a mother "trying to get her step-daughter some 'experience' from an older man," federal court records say.

Cramer responded to the ad Sunday saying he was an interested 59-year-old with the full knowledge the "girl" in the ad was a 13-year-old. He mentioned that he is married and a lawyer, court records said.

He continued to communicate until Tuesday when he sent a photo of his genitalia. He asked questions about whether law enforcement was involved and to determine a meeting location. When he arrived, he was taken into custody.

Commenting on Cramer's arrest, FSU President John Thrasher said he expects university employees to conduct themselves with high moral, ethical and professional standards.

"These allegations against our former deputy general counsel are shocking and appalling," Thrasher said in a statement. "Upon learning of the arrest of Michael Cramer, the university immediately placed him on administrative leave. Later in the day, when we received the criminal complaint, we initiated steps toward terminating his employment. However, he resigned before being terminated. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement."

Love Thrasher's response after getting the criminal complaint -- "we initiated steps toward terminating his employment." Wow, that's a forceful statement of a leader right there.

And then his standard F$U statement ( and this should be part of their fight song!)... "We are cooperating fully with law enforcement."

They were firing him the day they found out about it. What else do you want them to do?

Kinda like the news. When they catch someone why report it? They already caught him and handleing it. Right?

Let me rephrase it.

FSU started the process of firing him as soon as FSU found out about it. What else was FSU supposed to do? Since, according to your statement above, you think their handling of the situation deserves criticism.

You're trying to pin this on FSU. If it had been Montana State it wouldn't have been newsworthy enough for you to share it.
You try harder.

Not a lot of good happening for UF the last 5 or 7 years. I understand fully what Trey means. Take your shots when possible.

I did notice a 80 year old woman from The Florida State Women's College jaywalked last week. Glad they kept that out of the news.

You are correct. It wouldn't have popped up on ESPN I'm sure.

Try again :tu:

I'll post up to feed the op's troll.

No doubt an embarrassment for FSU, but it is not sports related news.

Here is additional information should you care to learn more about the accused.

There is nothing noted in the accused career that in way links him with sports at FSU, at Montana State or anywhere else. However the accused did work once at the USMA. Perhaps the op would want to try and and embarrass them also. That seems to be his only point. :eyeroll:
