Had a tough go on Florida public land and into GA private.. First out of state trip I have made where we came home empty handed..
We put 2 birds to bed on Friday afternoon then made it first to spot and got run over by Florida man..
Day 2 we circled back to Tom and so did he..
3rd day boss hen somehow busted me 3 rows of pines back and alerted gobbler. Buddy missed on a sneaky bird that afternoon that slipped in on his bad shoulder...
Day 4 only heard gobs on neighbors and hit the ground and nothing..
Day 5 got a text from landlady saying they've decided not to renew my lease on my little honey hole on Swan creek.
Got to love 20/21 trying to MPA (maintain positive attitude)! 😅

I'd love to hear the details on this!

Yea we spent all day Friday daylight to dark boots on the ground scouting. Roosted one Friday morning and 2 Friday evening. Didn't run in to many folks scouting. Apparently it was a hotspot because we had people trying to ride past us on E bikes with headlights on. A 4 wheeler passed me on the no vehicle trail, and a slew of other flashlight holding googans right behind them.. Could hear some of them having a full on conversation at daylight.. Me and my buddy had box call allstars encroaching on within 100 yards. Needless to say his bird went the other direction and I saw my turkeys fly off roost and turn 180 in the other direction... Gone

That sucks man, hate you had such a tough go at it. As you experienced firsthand, SOME of the general public that hunts public areas simply amaze me with their approach to turkey hunting (really turkey educating and turkey scaring). It seems googans are more prevalent these days, than ever before. It is very frustrating to say the least. Hopefully things will do a 180 for you and you'll hop right back in the driver's seat. Thanks for sharing your experiences.

I had a rough two days in GA myself. People parking on top of me, on a quota hunt. Cut the trip short after talking with the game warden. What I found out was that they decided to open that little WMA to general season last Spring to give people something to do. Being less than 5000 acres and easy to navigate, it was wiped out in short order. The GW said he hasn't seen a gobbler since. I saw hen tracks and that was it after covering a lot of miles. I want to go back this weekend to another place but I don't know about this weather.

Imagine trying to be quiet and sneak on a roost then 4 wheeler puts by...
I've told my closest friends this story in person, but never typed it out on here. About 10 years ago I was hunting some TVA land in TN, and I had access from the land side, approaching the water as I walked in. As I was walking through some cut over and thick briars on private property about to hit the big beautiful hardwoods of the TVA easement, I hear an ATV coming toward me from the water. I was about to ease up to the hardwoods, listen, then try to strike a bird. I paused as the ATV approached me and just listened to see what he was going to do, knowing my hunt was pretty much over before it even started. He was climbing a hill on his ATV headed right toward me, the best place to listen and call from, high up on a hill. I just hunkered down to see how this was going to play out. Glad I did as it was hilarious. As the ATV stopped at the top of the hill, about 75 yards from me (estimate), but out of my sight, the rider/hunter turns the ATV off. Complete silence for a minute, then the box call starts squawking within a minute of the ATV turned off. More squawking, then a little more. Nothing, no gobbles, no nothing, no response from anything. Imagine that. Then...........the ATV fires up, and I hear AC/DC blaring from a loud speaker "I'm rolling thunder, pouring rain, I'm coming on like a hurricane.....Hells Bells, Hells Bells you got me ringing............."

He fired his ATV up, with radio blarring, and off he went, back toward the water. Needless to say, I chuckled, shoook my head, turned a 180, headed to the truck and relocated. Chit happens.

I have to wonder what his success rate had been with that approach. :)

Stories like these make me lose all faith in humanity.

Thanks man I am ok with it. Had a great time, walked ALOT of miles.. We weren't expecting a slay fest but certainly had a goal of at least tagging a gobbler. It wasn't for lack of trying that's for damn sure..

I once was set up 75 yards from a gobbling turkey. He was on a 2 track I had never seen a vehicle on. At daylight a 1950 ish Ford truck comes up 2 track. Stops directly under gobbler. Hits an owl and box call. End of that scenario. I had never seen a vehicle there before that day or since. Lol. Yawl said it googans

That sucks and is pretty much why I don't hunt public land and especially an opener. I was hunting some land with another tndeer member a few years ago and one of the other members son rode through after daylight while I was working birds. This happened more than once and I was livid every time. Some people think the world revolves around them.
