Been looking at getting a new tractor and I have been stuck on getting a 4WD. After thinking about it for a while, I was trying to come up with the amount of times I wished I had 4 wheel drive on my exisiting tractor and I could count them on one hand. For the folks that have had both, is the 4WD worth all the extra money?

The tractor will have a loaded and will be used for things aroud the house as well as bushhogging and planting the hunting property.

I only have experience with a 4WD but I can say that there have been a bunch of times when I was operating in 2WD and forgot to switch back to 4WD. Found myself spinning back tires in soft mushy wet soil and tearing up ground. With the flip of a switch, I was able to instantly pull out. It's definitely worth it for me given the terrain of my property.

Is your land hilly? Is your land wet? If so you may need 4 wheel.
I have only owned a two wheel drive with no loader. My land was fairly flat & relatively dry. I never got stuck.

We had both. Sold the 2wds and now only have 4wds. Its better to need it and have it than to need it and don't. We also would not have another 2wd with a loader. Just my 2 cents

I have a 4wd right now, and I have been deciding if I wanted it for my next tractor. I think I will stick with the 4wd, as I have a few areas in my lower field where the ground stays pretty wet, and I would hate to get stuck with a tractor and have to get help trying to get it out.

The other advantage of 4WD over 2WD is that you may be able to use a smaller 4WD tractor to do the same work as a larger 2WD tractor. The exception would be if you need a higher PTO HP for a larger bushhog or other PTO implement, but for plows and disc and other pull implements, the 4WD tractors "act" like bigger tractors than they really are.

Put it this way...I bet if my tractor were a 2WD 65hp model, I couldn't pull my IH480 14 ft disk. When I pull it with my 4WD 65hp tractor, I tend to forget its behind me.

Thanks for the input guys. I pretty much answered my own question when I borrowed my brother in laws 32 hp 4WD Kubota yesterday. With the loader, 4WD comes in handy.

Ive got a 2wd massey and haven't had problems, but I stay out of the field when its wet. I have had experience with both and definitely prefer 4wd. especially if you go to different areas for family and friends.

Got the 4WD with front end loader and will say there have been several times already I needed the 4WD. Will not be without 4WD and front end loader for the rest of my life if possible.
