Not sure we're to post this so if it's the wrong area please let me know. My girls got me a bloodhound for Father's Day and I want to train it to be a deer recovery dog, problem right now is I don't have any chunks of hide or liver to get him used to the scent. He's only 8 weeks old so I know I have time but if anyone in the Chester county or surrounding areas has some hide scraps they don't want I'd be interested in them, buying them for the right price as well. Thanks fellas

If you have Facebook, I can send you a link to TN blood trailing group. They can hook you up.. okay I was off on the name, but here is the link.

I trained my cur by thawing deer burger out and poking a hole in the bag then dragging it around the yard. I let the dog find it then reward him with getting to eat it.

You probably know this but I'll offer it anyway: train to track blood only…not foot or hide scent especially with a dog as cold nosed as a bloodhound. I had a GSP that would track blood but ignore all other deer smells. If I'd have trained her on deer scent (vs blood only), she'd have ran deer…any deer…like crazy.

I'm training my Redtick/Bloodhound mix on blood. I saved a few livers and blood last season in the freezer. I also saved a few lower legs. I've been dipping the leg in blood and dragging it behind my ebike or 4 wheeler. Her nose is the real deal as long as she keeps it in check. She know what her job is when the tracking harness and long orange lead go on.

My 3yo male Brittany in my avatar pic is an awesome tracker but I'm not young enough to keep up with him. I used him season before last and he wore me down in a matter of minutes, dragging me thru the woods. That's when I decided to get the hound.

That's awesome! Where did you get that orange harness/vest from? I'd like something like that for my hound. How did you collect the blood? Just hang the deer up above a bucket?

I got the vest on Amazon but it appears they no longer have the orange color.

When gutting, save the liver, heart, and blood from the chest cavity.
