Since the other morning been doing research on turkey calls and the difference of materials making different sounds. Holy smokes Batman I never would of imagined all that went into turkey calls.

Are all the different woods make different sounds on pot calls or is it a looks thing?

Started learning how mouth calls are made and it has all been very interesting.

A lot of both. Different woods definitely have different sounds, but good call makers are artists and they love the looks of different woods as well. The friction surface (lid/sides of a box and striker for pots) makes the boggest difference in sound.

as a general note, softer wood pot calls usually give a more mellow tone. More dense type woods usually give a more higher pitched tone with more snap in the notes. Again just a general rule of thumb, what type of striker and surface you are using it on and the call make can change that some

Call collecting is a separate hobby from turkey hunting. I haven't got into it myself. But from what I can tell it is pretty addictive.
