You can relate to that turkey hunt when you heard a hen and thought," is that a hunter". We should designate a 2 Yelp, 1 cut signal. That way if it's a hunter he can relay back and you both know. If it's a real hen then there is no harm. Thoughts?

A lot of turkey calls I hear in the woods sound like turkey calls to me. Especially the pot calls and the extra raspy mouth calls. Some people are really good and I've been fooled, but some you can tell by the calling sequence it's not a real hen. Either way I don't worry too much about it. I'm trying to call in a gobbler, not another hen.

I run into plenty Of other hunters each year and usually they give themselves away with a consistent predictable cadence they repeat over and over every varying, or the cackle, or locator calls.

btw cackling is one of the dumbest calls I hear hunters do. Yes it will make birds gobble, but it's rarely a vocalization hens use.

there are always hens that sound like hunters though And a few hunters that really sound good and can fool you.

Great idea. But how would you get it out to the rest of the hunters

My fear is that another hunter is there and the gobbler comes in between us, now we are shooting toward each other. I might recognize that wingbone though!!!! Its unique and I know I dont have a chance against that call..

I hear ya...I'm just not enthused at the thought of a 3.5" turkey load headed my way from 100 yards.

I reckon you fellers come up with the right call and we will just start using g it and teaching g the next gen. By the time we die we will have created the universal " hey pal its me" turkey call. Hahha

If and when I hunt public and I hear a bird that I haven't struck, I will generally move towards the bird and pause and listen before I get into calling distance. I will then listen very intently to see if another hunter is trying to work the bird. If they are, I leave or sometimes listen to the show and never interrupt. With that being said. I have had on a number of occasions had idiots come in on me and totally mess up the whole situation by not paying me the same respect that I try to give.
I heard them approaching I would give them the old "shave and a haircut - two bits" on a pot call.
For the respectful ones it would sometimes work for the idiots Nope! Because they have Zero respect for other people and as far as I'm concerned the sport. I don't care what kind of sign or signal anyone comes up with, it will always be ignored by the selfish and ignorant.

First week of season I ran into this issue. Came back to where I knew the bird was the day before but wanted to get above him but before I could I hear yelps so I Yelp back then they yelped again then hit a crow call so I knew immediately what it was. So I went into a series of yelps so they would get the hint but evidently they didn't. Once I could tell that they were coming down to me I circled around back to where I was the day before. I listened to this guy call non stop for about 150yrds making his way from my left to right. Once he shut up about 30min later a bird gobbled in front of me which was in between me and the caller. I called to him he came in silent an i killed him an hour after his only gobble.
