A buddy got some chufa and we have never planted any. Has anyone had any luck with it? Any advise on planting it?

Also what do you think would be best in addition to planting chufa? Our bean fields are pretty much picked clean by the time Turkey season starts.

chufa is awesome and will grow best if row planted. Soil is the key with it though as it does MUCH MUCH better in sandy type soils or well drained soil.

Millet and clover are hard to beat as well. Turkeys eat most anything so any seed producing plants work well as does plants that attract lots of bugs ala clover.

We thought about a creek bottom that funnels from hardwoods to river. Its in the center of the property. We are trying to manage for deer and turkey and hold as many as we can on our property.

Tried it several times in different types of soil and have never gotten more than a plant here or there. It seems to be very dirt-specific...finicky. I'll likely try again just to use up what seed I have and then that's the end if my chula experiment.

I thought it maybe difficult to grow and maintain. Figured turkeys would eat it before it got a chance to grow.
