Where to change clothes killed my bird Friday morning on public ground. It's crazy to think about how that decision played a major factor.

After hearing NOTHING all morning, I decided to head to work about 8:30.

After making the long circle back to the truck, I decided not to wait til I got to work to change clothes like I have been doing, but just go ahead and do it at the truck.

I had dropped the tail gate, and got my clothes from the truck and was about start changing when I heard the gobble. I would have already been in the truck and headed back if not.

Anyway, he was in the back corner of a field not 150 yds away. I quickly grabbed my stuff (thankfully I remembered to load my gun :D ), and hauled it to the edge of the field. I had just put the call down from making some cluck and purrs when I saw him come into the plowed field.

He was angling to my left and was out of range. He disregarded more clucks and just kept walking, stopping to pick, and gobble on occasion. He was going to walk past me and had cleared the cover I had, but I was able to get a mouth call in and yelped at him twice. He actually took two more steps, but then turned and started easing my way, and the rest is history. He died about 80 yds from my truck!

He was a two year old.

Like I said, it's crazy to think what all took place that kept me from being in the truck two minutes earlier :) !

Awesome, and a wise old hunter once taught me to always call when I got to the truck no matter where it's parked and how stupid you might feel.
