Turkey hunting from a box blind

What don't you like about it? Never spring hunted from a blind myself, and don't really want to, but wondering why you didn't like it.

Greets fm CO
I've harvested the great majority of my birds from one. Less movement (gun is all ready on a shelf and poked outward) much of that movement can be concealed. Absolutely beautiful when it's raining or cold North wind is blowing. Comfortable seating without distracting discomfort.
All of those fm a box blind were in W TN.
Thanks Ray

It was like hunting from an elevated prison cell. Daybreak hits and there are turkeys gobbling in the woods way off in the distance on my friend's property. I tell him we need to get out of the blind and move in closer and set up on one. He says no because it will scare them. He says we need to try and call them in to our decoys in the corner of the field. I call one to the field but he won't come inside 70 yds of the dang decoys. He stays between 70 - 80 yds for 30 min strutting and staring and eating and then walks off the way he came in. A half hour later another tom did the same thing. Happened again on Tue morning. Then an idiot trespassing poacher walked into the far side of the field, scared the real turkeys off and proceeded to stalk our decoys with a rifle. I had to wave the orange flag from my turkey vest out the window of the blind to ward him off. He ran like a scalded dog once he saw my flag. I am sitting there thinking that if this is how my friend hunts turkeys then no thanks. I'll take a few thousand acres of pubic land that I can run around on any day over sitting in a box blind and hoping a turkey comes to the field and has the guts to come close enough to the decoys to be in shotgun range.

Re: Turkey hunting from a box blinded

There are several ways to hunt turkeys. What you did, IMO, is what I call "deer hunting" turkeys. Stand (or blind) hunting turkeys is VERY different from the way I prefer to hunt. VERY different.

It does not take being a good woodsman to kill turkeys this way. Just a ton of patience.

I have tried this approach in an area where I knew birds would be. Put out a decoy, and my blind and waited. It worked, and I got good video footage, but in the end, it was not as fun for me as "runnin and gunnin".

But that is just IMO.

Dang that doesn't sound like very fun turkey hunting to me. I would definitely stick to the thousands of acres of public land

Neither does ambushing or crawling birds to some people.

Different strokes for different folks!

at least I am hunting them hard when I belly crawl! It's hard work that pays off. Sitting in a blind waiting a long time and then watching 2 birds hang up out of range doesn't sound very fun, I would guess, to most people...
