Went to check my trail camera today since it has been 4 days since I last checked it. It was about 5:30 so I didn't think any birds would be in the field since fly up time is around 6:10 or so. On the way up I started seeing a little sign so I was picking up my pace from the excitement. I have had this camera up for about 3 weeks with only one picture as of yet (bobcat). Well I got through the 1st field and on the little road that connected it to the 2nd field. Got up in the field a bit and I hear something walking in the woods. I freeze and look up. There stands the 8 longbeards I seen 2 weeks ago only 50yds away! I thought they had seen me because a few had their heads up. I just stood there not moving a bit. Finally after about 20 or so seconds they put their heads down and went back to pecking around and walking up towards the ridge. WOW, undetected!!! I just stood there and let them get way up the side of the mountain before moving on. I wasn't sure if they were going to roost right there or go higher up. After about 10min of standing there I crept up to my camera. I opened it up and it had 17pics on it. Well I pulled that card and put a new one in and then looked around in front of the camera. Found some turkey droppings so I knew I had turkey pics!!!! Well I turned it back on and went to listen to see where they were going to roost. I thought it was going to be down lower than usual on the ridge top of a finger so I got where I could listen. Well I was wrong! They walked up the ridge line of the finger to the top and roosted. Tried to get a gobble out of them but noting but some cackling as they flew up. I was freezing so I got out of there and rushed to check the pics. Well only 2 were turkeys with the rest being crows and tweety birds but here is the 8 longbeards! Here is what I got in my honey hole, COME ON APRIL:
