I'm sitting here now in CO with my Non-Res 2012 TN All Game Lic and looking forward to the TN turkey opener.
I'll be hunting Weakley and Gibson counties.
I own a small farm in Gibson county between Yorkville and Central in an area called Riverside. There has been flooding there at the worst possible time two springs in a row, so I may concentrate on Weakley county near Greenfield. Out of the last 9 or so years, I've harvested all but one year. Last year, I also harvested a gobbler in CO but it takes several years to draw a tag in the area of CO I hunt in
so I won't be hunting there anytime soon..
Anyway, what do the prospects in W TN look like?

Thanks Ray

Ray,

Does CO not have that many turkeys? My wife and I were in Estes Park in January of 2010. I got up early one morning and heard a bird gobble up high on the canyon going into RMNP. It was one of those, "Holy crap that was a turkey" type moments.

CO does have some turkeys in a few non draw areas. It doesn't even start to compare with TN. Most areas are just not compatible with turkeys. CO does have both Merriams and RIOs. Merriams prevail in mountains and RIOs in the East plains. I've never harvested a Merriam. Believe NE has both varieties. My friend fm Greenfield called me today and we have plans for Weakley county for the opener. Wish me luck!

I have been hunting both counties hard. Did harvest a 9 in beard gobbler afternoon of opening day but no more since. I am seeing enuf deer to all ready get me excited for archery season this fall. A friend says this is "The Year Of The Deer". I'm still trying. Ray
