Still undecided on putting a scope on or not but if I do what would you recommend? I'm not a red dot fan so it would be a traditional type scope. Trying to find a Nikon turkey pro online to read about and can't find much so beginning to think its not made anymore. Recommendations and feedback on what you do and don't like?

I use a Leupold 2-7x33 NWTF edition with turkey plex reticle. The extra magnification isn't really necessary but I love the scope. I leave it on 2x most of the time.

X2

Simmons makes a turke scope(Pro Diamond) that is real reasonable, actually Jumpmaster21 has one for sale. I will check to see if he still has it...Natchez has the nikon scope you referred too. A buddy of mine may have one for sale, he switched to a red dot.
I'll check with him too.

IMO, main thing is to go with a fairly decent quality glass, low magnification, and prefer the smallest objective available.

The old Nikon Monarch Turkey Pro's (not made now) have a 20mm objective ---- these are my personal favorite --- very small, light, just perfect.

Also an excellent choice. Has a slightly larger 24mm objective, and weighs a few ounces more than the Nikon. I had one of these, and liked it. (I think these may be 2.5x instead of 2x.)

My biggest complaint about some of the new models is they have gone to larger 32mm objectives, something totally unnecessary, and just a liability on a low-power scope. Besides, we're not shooting turkey's 30 minutes before sunrise and 30 minutes after sunset ---- make the scope as small as possible.

I understand your point but if you decide you dont like it for turkey hunting you can always use the 32mm obj on a rifle..

I have a nikon 2x7x32 prostaff in camo. Cool thing about magnification is that i don't have to carry bino's. With the 7 magnification power you can glass fields with the scope. There is an up and downside to scopes, moving birds being example. You can still shoot them as long as they aren't flying or at a dead run. To each his own man, i like mine. Best of luck

You can with a 20mm, too. :)

Seriously, larger objectives may be more about marketing than necessity. With that 20mm objective (using less than 4x magnification), you can clearly see a deer in a dark woods before and after legal shooting times.

I think a few years ago (and talking about rifle scopes now), some manufacturers started pushing larger objectives for two reasons:
1) Marketing something that few people had (pushing the 50mm instead of the more common 32 and 40's);
2) Using a larger objective to help camouflage lower-quality glass.

With fairly good glass (such as the Nikon Monarch or Pentax Lightseeker), anything larger than around 20mm is really just unnecessary, even if you use them on a rifle in dark woods.

I have a Diamond Pro on my extra turkey gun. It is a great scope and serves the purpose. I don't think they make them anymore though.
