Congrats to all who have killed birds so far this season and I have enjoyed reading all the stories and stats.

Below is the top 30 turkeys of all time from TN, and over the last week I have seen a bunch of posts with birds weighing in well over some of these. 24 lb+ turkeys just aren't that common.

In other words check your scales, or start registering your trophies.

Your link does not take you to any records, but to the NWTF website where you search for records.

AMEN! Every year I hear multiple folks claiming to have killed birds that weigh between 25 - 30 lbs, but I know it just ain't happening! I'm well aware that they can get that big, and some do get killed (I guess), but a 24 lb bird is a whopper, let alone a 26 lbder!

I have personally only seen one bird that weighed as much as 25 pounds. My father-in-law killed a 25 pounder several years ago in Indiana. My two biggest toms both weighed 23 pounds. I agree, a lot of folks must be putting their thumbs on the scales.

it looks like you have to have multiple beards to rank high, that seems kinda non-typical, what about single bearded birds are they typical? Im not much of a turkey hunter even though i've taken a few

Yeah some people guestimate weight.......kinda like that 40 pounder that got hit by that semi.... lol.

24 lbs is rare from my experiences as well. It is some sort of obsession with weight, when weight means doodah in the turkey world. It is all about spurs, that is the only thing which establishes a birds true age.

Next 24 lb bird killed in the knoxville area, I will give someone a crisp $100 bill to let me come weigh it with my certified scales and them show 24 lbs or bigger.

90% of the mature gobblers in the SE weigh b/w 19-21 lbs, no matter how old or young. That is just the way it is.

You should come a little further west and see some of these "fat" birds on these horse farms in middle TN, although it's hard to stomach how they get their weight. :) I've shot some video of some monsters on private land, I need to figure out how to post the videos.

The first deer I ever killed was a button buck...I was hyped up and proud... I still like to tell the story about my 90 lb# button buck.... And dang it! I know it was 90 lb...I just know it!

I probably should have entered some of mine from middle TN, just never really cared about a 'turkey score'... I agree, it's ALL about the spurs.

I've personally got a 26 lbr, a 25 lbr, a 24 lbr, and over a dozen in the 21-23 lb range. (Not counting the 34 lbr I killed 15 years ago- it ended up being domestic :) )

Biggest off my farm was 29.5 lbs on a certified scale... I actually told the guy he should register that one. Second biggest one was 27 lbs.

Biggest bird I've seen this year looks to be only around 22-23 lbs... but we're making up for the weight in the multiple beard department.

I have killed truck loads of turkeys over the years from several states and have only killed 2 over 23 lbs. Just so happens to have killed 1 of those 24 lb birds this morning. I brought it to work to weigh it on a set of certified scales just to be sure. Get this-it was a 2yr old.

A 21 pound true wild gobbler is indeed a heavy turkey. Most heavier than that are either crossed with someone's pets or been eatin under your feeders all year. Like posted above, it's all about the spurs.

Dont think you guys are taking into account all the feeder and corn piles around. ;) With that being said i killed a 16lb 3yr old last year. Inch and an 8th spurs.

yeah i love reading some of the weights on here....i know most dont mean it in a bad way just dont know any different and are just guessing but there seem to be a TON of huge birds killed on here.

agree on the spurs, that is basically all i even look at.
