Was thinking about buying a turkey trumpet off of eBay. I've never run one but want to learn. I seen some for around 25 dollars. Should I try starting with these or look elsewhere?

Do yourself a favor and get a trumpet by a quality maker, which will cost you $100-$150 minimum, with some going for upwards of $250-300 and a year or two wait. The reason you want a quality trumpet is many people purchase a cheap one and get disgusted and give up on it, when in fact, they would most likely stick with a quality trumpet and learn it over time. Unless you are a natural, a trumpet can take some people 2-3 years to perfect to the point they have confidence in calling one to the barrel with it. Some people learn faster than others, your mileage may vary.

For the $100 price point, I'd recommend Matt Mclain from Tennessee Ridge, TN. I just spoke with him this morning and he could turn you a call and have it in your hands in 2-3 weeks. PM me if you want his contact info.

Do some reading and research at this link when you have time and you will become more familiar with preferred trumpet call makers etc.

Thanks Andy! I will pm you. I can use a wingbone and a mouth call pretty well. Just wanted to give the trumpet a try.
