I've never bought one but always eye balled a few, never really seen one worth the 70+$ I only seen 1 and I didn't buy it went back later and they were all gone never to be seen again....backs taking wear and tear I need a dam good cushion and some storage...pros cons what do y'all have what do you like what's good and what should I stay away from ? thanks

I have a Primos and a field and stream, both were bought on sale. The Primos is a better setup but the field and stream has a better cushion.

I'm going to make due this season with what I have, sinceiI have discovered the gobbler lounger I will be buying an ol tom bare essentials before next year

I've worn them all, literally. I think I've finally found the best of the best in the Cabelas tactical tatr II, it has plenty of pockets but not too many, unbelievable butt cushion, and a great back pad as well. I have never worn one that is better.

the only two I have found that I like are the cabelas and ol tom. I have had many good hunts out of my ol tom and that's why I use it now. but it gets retired at the end of the season and ill get the tactical tatr 2. probably the best vest ive ever seen and tried on and hunted out of a buddies for a hunt. un real. those are the two I like. the only down fall ive seen out of the ol tom is that they can be hot.

Is the cabelas vest hot?

No hotter than the rest, and cooler than most. The hottest ones I've ever worn were the Mossy Oak Dixon, Mossy Oak Super Elites, and the grand prize winner of hotness is the ol Tom stuff. The ol Tom is Siberia level warmth and is a gigantic piece of garbage IMO.

hahah i have a pair of the original ol tom tactical pants and they could be worn as a sweat suit for wrestlers needing to cut weight. It is unreal how freaking hot they get and how little they breath!

Haha, I wear mine on crisp deer hunts because their so hot. Whatever that fabric is it is the hottest material known to man. Another hot garment is a shirt from under armor I bought a year or two ago that feels ultra light but is like wearing a garbage bag

I used to wear an Ol Tom Essentials vest and it was by far the coolest and lightest vest I've ever worn. I have a Mossy Oak Limbhanger that I love. However, it is a little hot, but well worth it in my opinion.

Maybe I'll get the tactical tatr I didn't realize that ol tom stuff was like that

You won't be disappointed, the ol Tom fabric is the hottest on the market I believe. Also, the vest I had was cheaply made and the pocket layout was awful for the way I hunt. Everything was hard to get to, and the design lent itself to losing calls. The seat won't stay up when moving either. The back pad is laughable and was constantly scrunched up and uncomfortable as well. It seems like a vest designed for people who go and set up in places for long periods of time and don't move much. If that's someone's style of hunting I'm sure it is a fine vest.

The Super Elite III is discontinued. The regular cotton/polyester version of this vest was too warm for me. However, they made a version called Super Elite III Treklite that is made out of much lighter and much more breathable fabric than the regular Super Elite III. I have one and it's a great vest. It is not hot and it dries really fast if it gets wet. Unfortunately, it was also discontinued. Pretty much the only place you can get a new one is Wing Supply. It's a great deal for $25, but they only have it in 3XL, which would fit a NFL nose tackle.

I also have the Russell Limbhanger, which is an awesome vest, but it is also discontinued. However, Midway USA still has some in size L and XL for $90. I like the layout of the Limbhanger better than the Super Elite III. The Limbhanger is made from cotton/polyester like the standard Super Elite III. However, it's not as hot as the Super Elite III because it has shoulder straps instead of vest sleeves.

My favorite vest is the Cabela's Tactical Tat'r Kickstand vest simply because it has a built-in kickstand that allows you to set up just about anywhere and still have back support. You don't need a tree! I use this vest when I hunt open country in Texas and Kansas. It is $140 now, but I got mine for half price during the end-of-season clearance sale in May 2012.
