Got my very first bird while flying solo this morningwhat a rush!!!! Got setup this morning in an area that I know has some birds. It was a cool morning that was completely void of any turkey soundshen or gobbler. Being brand new to turkey hunting and knowing that birds are in the area, I knew that I had a chance and had to be patient. I setup on a powerline open area and placed my hen decoy out in the field and sat at the edge of the opening. At 6:35am after not hearing anything, I got my slate call out and made a few some what loud yelps and put it back in the backnothing. At 7:05am I noticed two longbeards down the way about 200 yards, so I made a really soft yelp and a few clucks and put the call away for the second timethey closed 200 yards in a hurry. The bigger bird came in at 12 yards and was all about the hen , meanwhile, his smaller counterpart stayed back at 20 yards and had me pegged from the get go, and I still don't know why. The smaller one started walking away when the bigger one picked up on his cue and lost interest in the hen and I shot the bigger one at 16 yards before he made his escape. 19.5lbs, 10 1/4" beard and 7/8" spurs.

Way to go man! It took me three years to get my first (and only) one. I love hunting the stupid things though.
