What kind of slithering snakes do you guys have here in Tn? Are snake boots a must here. Hate those buggers makes my skin crawl lol :?

Snake boots are a good idea but I haven't ever got a pair. I only ever walked up on one rattlesnake a couple years back during spring squirrel right after turkey season. I was wearing flip flops that morning, lol. Mostly what I have to worry about is the rattlesnakes, not much else I can step on that can kill me

Water moccasin, copperhead, and timber rattler in my area...not sure about the pygmy rattler's range though. I don't hit the woods without snakeboots once it starts to warm up. Where I hunt has lots of water, more than it's fair share of moccasins, and I ain't got time to be worried about'em.

This photo was taken on March 23...I was out listening for birds one morning before the season opened. When I stopped to listen happened to look down and he was laying in a little sunny spot just up out of the water less than 2ft from my boot. I honestly believe the only reason he didn't hit me was it was still a little chilly that morning...if I'd have walked up on him a few hours later when the temps had risen a bit I might have been in for a real downer. That dude was as big around as a baseball and was so long he could have hit me mid-thigh if he wanted to.

I wear boots for sure.

Wow look how big that son of a gun is!! Thanks for the heads up time to be looking for some boots. Bet it would be insane hearing that gobbler sound off then you hear a rattle :-o

I wear LaCrosse Grange rubber boots which aren't snake boots, but I always wondered if a normal strike would penetrate them. I don't like venomous snakes but I don't worry about them too much. Maybe I've been lucky. I usually see them or smell them before I'm too close.

I've wondered the exact same thing, Spur. Even thought about the rubber boots with snake armor but they're so stiff out of the box I wondered if they'd ever break in?

Thanks spurhunter I'll have to look into those. I owned a old pair of redhead boots but your right wonder how deep they can strike their fans into the boot material.

Had a cotton mouth chase me once in west tn while wading some flooded timber to get to a gobbler I could hear. I'm pretty sure I walked on water that day!

I had a pair of LaCrosse Diamondbacks (rubber snake boots) for several years but they quit making them years ago. They were stiffer than the Grange but not unbearable. I just love the comfort of my Granges!

I wear muck fieldblazers and just keep my eyes open best I can. I did buy a pair of snake gaitors that go up just below the knee. Thought about wearing a hiking boot with these. Put them over my mucks once just to wear them and they were surprisingly comfortable.

Im the same way. I work with them everyday and always look for them but seldom have had any problems. The most dangerous snake is the one you don't see.

Try gaiters instead.

Im more worried where I sit than where I step, im not very quick sitting down!

I bought my farm from a family that had owned the land since the 20's. Before passing away I run into the son and asked if he had ever seen rattlers since he has lived in that holler his whole life. He replied, I've seen one rattler here my whole life! I told him that was great. He replied back, hard to have rattlers with all these dang copperheads! From that day on I have had snakeboots on every year! LOl

I ve worn them hunting hogs at night in south Texas. They protected me a couple times from a bite from a rattler. They grow big down there. It stinks to come face to face with one while crawling through the trails the hogs have made in the cactus and prickly pear.
I don't think much about it around here.
