It's been a good two days. After working a bird for over an hour last weekend and jerking the trigger at 40 yds for a clean miss, it's good to be on the board.
I decided to go check a spot out yesterday afternoon after work. I was solo since my son had a youth event at church. I got on a gobbler there but got busted. My dad called on my way back to the truck and said there were turkeys in his cow pasture. I was just a few minutes away, and one was a gobbler. I was able to get around them, come up to a rise to see the field and set up, and I seen a fan. I was lucky not to get busted. It's only my 2nd field turkey ever. I like woods turkeys better but not complaining.

My son was with me this morning and the shooter. We got a bird to gobble as it started to rain. He gobbled every time I called but stood his ground. Another bird started gobbling above us and paralleling us. The first bird gobbled again and sounded like he was going away from us. I decided to make a move about 40 yards up the hill to a road where we could get a better setup on the 2nd bird and/or make a better move on the 1st. I eased up over the bank with the my son behind me, and there he was strutting. I assume it was the first bird but maybe another. He didn't see us at first, but I couldn't get my son to stop. He came out of strut and started to get nervous with a couple steps away so I shot. I looked at my son and said I'm sorry. I did feel a little bad, but he had been rubbing in that he was ahead for the year. The other bird gobbled like crazy to this bird flopping. We got him to respond one time but think he seen me when I went to get this bird. It was raining pretty good then and didn't have our rain suits with us so decided to chase him another day.

I reloaded some shells with less powder and shot for reduced recoil due to a bulged disc in my neck. I'm technically not supposed to be shooting a gun but very little recoil with the 20 gauge. It still did a number on the birds.
