I'll be pulling for BJ, but I think he needs to be more aggressive. The Couture fight should be a massacre with Toney getting slamed on his head and beatdown. Toney was a very good boxer but mma is a different game, as Kimbo recently proved. The Florian and Maynard fight may end up being the best fight of the night and will probably go to decision. I'll also be pulling for Nate Diaz. Should be some good fights.

Re: UFC 117 Silva vs. Sonnen Official Thread

I think this is a weak card. There are a few interesting fights, but i'm not biting my finger nails in anticipation. I really hope Edgar will win again so that perhaps BJ Penn's ego might be quelled, and that his over zealous fans might stop coming up with excuses for a while. Penn really is a sore loser and has not half the ethic that Edgar seems to. I find myself more and more cheering for respectful fighters.

I would like to see Florian win. He will suffer a strength disadvantage, but I think he is the more skilled fighter in techniques other than wrestling. Also, and importantly, think he is mentally tougher that Maynard, and that may be a factor if this fight goes deep.

I think Couture and Toney is a money fight, meaning there is no reason to have it other than money. It is the absolute worst matchup for Toney. Matchmakers at least could have given him a striking matchup, though I assume Dana White wants to make a quick and powerful statement toward the debate over whether boxing or MMA is the premier fight sport.

If Randy avoids striking exchanges--and he's good at that, then I expect to see him easily finish Toney.

If this card was free on Spike I would watch it. I certainly won't pay to see it.

I will watch the free stream on the internet. :D

I'm with you Kirk. This will be the 2nd fight in a row that I will skip. BJ will come back strong and beat down Edgar. Randy will make Toney lick his own toes!

This card just doesn't interest me at all.

Re: UFC 117 Silva vs. Sonnen Official Thread

I am not going to order it my self but I don't see this as a card that dose not have some good fights. The BJ Penn fight will more than likely be a good fight. Some of the under card fight will be the more exciting fights to watch! I would like to see the fights so I might have to go to a bar that is showing it.

Re: UFC 117 Silva vs. Sonnen Official Thread

I actually think it was the best match up for Toney. They gave him a 47 year old wrestler with a questionable chin who is undersized for heavyweight. If Toney lands the right punch he KO's a MMA legend. (a la Ray Mercer - Tim Sylvia)

I can't think of a decent heavyweight who would be an easier fight. Lesnar, Velasquez, Carwin, Mir, Cro Cop, Kongo, Nelson, JDS?

Re: UFC 117 Silva vs. Sonnen Official Thread

Randy might be old(er), but he is also the most knowledgable and experienced fighter in the division.

He is a master of the clinch, and he has been using the clinch very effectively to disarm superior strikers.

He may be undersized, but he will undoubtedly have a conditioning advantage over Toney and most other heavyweights.

Anybody's chin is suspect when facing a professional boxer. That said, Toney is less known for KO power than Mercer was, but take away the boxing gloves, and it doesn't take much.

I think any fight with a predominantly stand-up fighter would have been better for Toney. Toney has striking conditioning and skill, but he has not had time to learn the ground game or even develop sufficient take down defense for a wrestler of Couture's caliber.

Of course any prediction about a fight is just speculation. Anything can happen, but the odds are with Couture, since for him, there are many routes to victory. For Toney there is only one.

Good luck with that, UFC has blocked all of the streams. This card is pretty good IMO.

You just got to know where to look. You won't see them on JustinTV
or any of the US outlets you have to look outside the English speaking world. The Phillipines, Argentina and Brazil all stream the fights you have to listen to them in Portuguese or Spanish.

My guess is they are setting up toney/lesnar in about 6-9 months

My guess is he will be about as good at MMA as Kimbo Slice and we saw how that worked out! :D

I say Toney goes 0/3 ,maybe 1/3 and quits fighting in MMA!

Could be right Remind me of this when couture pulls a weak half hearted loss
