I got to fish a pond that hasn't ever been opened to the public, privately owned by a friend. Man it has some big hybrid blue gill and a crap load of 1 to 1.1/2 lb bass in it. Between dad and I we caught around 60 to 70 head. Gotta love ultra lite fishing!!

hybrid bluegill? What other fish does it cross with?

And I cant agree more, ultra light bluegill fishing is a BLAST!

Bluegill X green sunfish is the "Georgia Giant" that is commonly stocked in farm ponds where the owner wants fast growth, 2lb+, and easily caught or aggressive fish. Downside is after F1, you lose that hybrid vigor.

Interesting, thanks for the info. It appears the anal fin is much larger than bluegill, Whats a good way for identifying them?

Good eating right there. Looks more like a coppernose than a hybrid in the pic. Either way those fish get bigger than regular gills. Sounds like you got a heck of a spot to fish
