Purchased a nt50b at the end of jan 2011. Tested camera still photos and worked fine. Plugged up the remote to change the configuration of the camera to video mode and remote would not work. Yes, I charged it completely. Called tech support and they had me return the camera for repair. They returned the camera a week or so later and said that it had a bad internal connection where the cable plugs in and replaced the insides of the camera. When I got the camera back, I again plugged the remote to the camera and it worked. I configured the camera for 10 sec videos and set it out to test it. When I took the memory card out and checked the videos on my computer, they were all cut off at about 2 seconds instead of 10 seconds. I put the memory card back in to the camera and plugged the remote to it to change the configuration and the remote was not working again!
Called tech support again and they had me return the camera again. To date, they still have the camera and have told me that I should try setting the video to 20 seconds and see if I then got 10 second videos! WHAT? I believe that the camera should function as advertised, not have to set it for more than the 10 second setting to try to get it to work. I am using brand new alkaline batteries and even tested the complete battery sled with a multimeter and they tested 6.1 volts.

Anyone have any ideas? BSK? I see that you are a pro staffer for HCO. I have asked to escalate the problem and asked for a manager to call me (he was not available the two times I called and asked for him) but have not had a call back yet.

This is starting to get annoying. Bought the camera 6 wks ago and still haven't been able to use it yet.

Anyone have any contact information for HCO other than what is on thier website. I would like to talk to the Owner or someone with authority to do something about this issue. Also, do they not have any American employees?

 [color:#FF0000] Oh, you have that right!

My experience has been worse than yours.
I bought two of the NT50B's in late October 2010.
One of them has yet to work more than 2 days on a set of any kind of batteries. Have sent it back, and I swear, I don't think they did anything to fix it. It's sitting on the kitchen table now, worthless.

The other one had been working fairly well, except that neither of my remotes would hold a charge. Hard to know if the cam is working when you can't use the remote, and you cannot make any changes to the setting without a working remote. Last week, my 2nd Uway wouldn't work at all, either. Now, I have two Uways, both worthless, laying on my kitchen table.

At $12.95 each to return, plus the shipping charges, plus my time, I've so far decided it's not worth my trouble to send them back. I will say that the Uway repair people were "nice" when I last dealt with them, but they did not fix either my returned cam nor the remote. Again, it seemed like they just re-boxed them and sent them back, doing nothing to fix the problems.

I cannot tell you how much time I've wasted in the field with these Uways. The last set-up, the "bad" one worked for two days, and the "good" one didn't work at all. Don't know about the rest of you, but my time is too valuable to be boxing and returning junk on an ongoing basis. I just won't buy any more of their Chinese junk, and will share my experience.

Did I mention that since October, the most time I've gotten from one of my two Uways is 2 days on a set of new batteries? And that's both before and after it was sent back for repair for this very problem. Again, right now, both are less than 6 months old, and neither is working at all (or no more than 2 days on a set of new Duracells).

Wes,
I will get those cameras from you and send them back myself and have them replaced. I just put a NT50 out last week that I charged the remote in November and it still worked fine.

I use the NIMH batteries in the cams myself.

Give me a call tomorrow and I will get them from you.

BuckNrut,

Thanks for your generosity, but hate to have anyone else spending their time on these either, especially when I don't seem to be willing myself.

I realize several people have been very happy with their NT50's & NT50B's. Maybe there has been a difference in the quality control on the "B" versions?

Also, not so sure the issue on the prior working unit may not be more with the non-working remotes instead of the cam. That particular cam had usually worked (until recently). With no working "remotes", harder to assess.

Speaking of the batteries, the particular one of these two that eats them, it hasn't mattered what kind of batteries were used. This last set-up I used new Duracells. They didn't even make it 48 hours.

Just frustrated for having sent something back under the warrenty, and it comes back with the same exact problems. Probably could have already sent them both back this week in the time I've spent complaining, so guess am just "venting" my frustrations a bit here. Bottom line remains I've spent many, many hours over the past few months "piddling" with these two cams, with little to show beyond being frustrated neither works at present.

leadslinger,

Sorry to hear of your problems. Unfortunately, I have little dealings with Uway any more. Early in their camera development, they asked if they could list me as a "Pro-Staffer," and since I was testing some of their prototype cameras I told them to go ahead. However, that's the limit of my contact with them--I tested early versions of the NT50B. Since then, I've not had any communication with them. All production-level NT50B's I use I purchased from internet resellers, just like everyone else at the same price everyone else pays.

I really need to have them remove me as a Pro-Staffer, as I have no real contact with the company.

Ive had better luck than wes, but did have to return each of mine once. I guess we will see how they function later this summer. I do love the pics they take and how they don't spook deer. So far I'd say I am pleased with my purchase, but that is dependent on me getting another couple years of use out of them.

Well said. So far, I'm somewhat satisfied with the production NT50Bs I've purchased. All experience minor glitches from time to time, but they function and get the pictures I need at half the price of a Reconyx. In fact, the pictures are better than a Reconyx takes.

I hate to hear all the probs, but im sure happy I held off on these until this year. I was afraid they may have some bugs to work out!

"Bugs" would be an understatement! Honestly, their biggest problem is Chinese manufacturing.

One of the things I do not like about the NT50 cameras are the type of plug in they use for the remotes. I can see where damaging any part of the male/female sides of the plugs could cause them to not work.
