VDGIF just released their numbers for the 2019 spring season. Seem to be a great season for EAST of Blueridge areas. Western Mountains not so great.

One thing I thought was interesting, TN states all counties were at or above on kill numbers. If you pull the 4 counties that border TN, they had decreases in kills.

Hancock/Hawkins - Lee saw a -11% decrease
Hawkins/Sullivan - Scott saw a -14% decrease
Sullivan/Johnson - Washington saw a -6% decrease
Johnson - Grayson saw a -8% decrease.

so how could the counties that are only divided by an imaginary line see that big of a decrease but the other side held or grew in numbers? All of them moving out of the communist state of VA for the better life in TN?

When TN has a county where half of the county's kill comes off of a 700 acre WMA, I'm not sure how much I would trust the overall figures........
Exactly.
And this is just one of many "anomalies" causing one to question the integrity of TWRA's turkey harvest data.

Very interesting for sure. Would be even more interesting to see other states info with bordering counties.

That could possibly tell a unwanted story...

Now you're in my part of the world. I hunt Sullivan and Johnson in Tennessee and Smyth, Grayson, Washington as well as Bland and Wythe in Virginia. It all sucked [emoji3525]

You hunt some beautiful country in my opinion.

I grew up in VA, hunting Scott over to Carroll all the way up to Craig. With trips up to Bath & Highland. I hunted Sullivan & Hawkins and Scott & Washington this year. My cams on Scott showed large groups of jakes this year with 3 gobblers early April together. I was really surprised with the jakes, I had a group of 3, 5 & 17.

I would rate the turkey season has OK, I did have 1 AM with 5 birds gobbling at daylight on youth weekend. NEver had 1-2 after that day. I had spot in Washington that was over looking a river valley, as much as 17 birds gobbling some seasons back. This year was I heard 2 on 3 hunts.

I agree, i would like to see what KY & AL/MS compared to TN

Hens should never be legal to kill.. I don't understand the logic behind the fall season including hens. Also, I love harvesting gobblers as much as anyone but we need a 2 bird limit at least for a while (state wide)..It probably will not be addressed however until its too late and too far gone... but that's my two cents worth...

Exactly. I still cry "foul" to the 2019 harvest numbers that TWRA released.
