I don't think it helped Ohio State losing their starting qb before the season started.

A great team is still a great team after losing a good player.Ohio State is not a great team and it showed.I'm happy to see that the Big Ten will be out of consideration of the 4 team playoff.

VT has started it's way back to being a perennial top 25 team. They have no less than 30 freshmen and sophomores DRESSING with many of those playing key roles now.
Foster had a game plan on defense that we knew about up here this past week and it worked. It certainly didn't hurt that their star QB didn't play.
They also kept ALL summer/fall practices and scrimmages closed to the public and media and held all info going into the season close to the vest.
