Hunted 7 days so far with only two birds to show for it, although some of those hunts were with kids who didn't have camo etc so we had to stay in the blind. Only been by myself once for an early morning hunt as I've taken 6 different kids and three dads out, but for the rest of the season I'll be hunting for myself (unless I can convince one of my girls to actually wake up!). Gobbling has been very spotty at best as there's only had one day of good gobbling. Woods are still VERY open and bare, dogwoods are just starting break buds and oaks look like it's January still. Two more weeks and it'll start to get good Lord willing!

2 birds in seven hunts isn't what I'd call a tough season.

Yeah, you are right. Just been tough hunting, and I'm a natural complainer/whiner ;) I'd just like to have a more "usual" hunt where I hear a roost gobble go set up and call him in...getting itchy for a hot bird. Plus I am kinda worried about not seeing many birds at all for so much time out, not even hens. Fact is I've seen more toms than hens so far and that ain't been many!

But you're correct and I am thankful for the two we've got.

x2. I'm on day 11 with 0 birds to show. I've called in a few but haven't got a shot yet, and it's been real tough to find one that will answer a call. I've seen one die and could have probably killed his buddy. I know filming has cost me one shot, and undergrowth/terrain has kept me from shooting anything else. I think this is the toughest season I've had since I started in 2011. I've been 90% public land so far

I see what you're saying. I've killed two here but have had a bunch of great hunts with close calls. The last day or so has been brutal though. When you're going and not working birds, and not hearing them it gets old fast.

Amen to that! I hunted 6 days in MS before our opener and never heard a gobble. I've hunted 7 days in TN and haven't killed one yet. I've been on hot birds but have been foiled by coyotes, property lines and probably bad decisions/mistakes on my part.

Toughest year I've ever had. I can get them to answer aggressive cutting once. That's it. Today is the top guest day so far. Haven't heard any and seen 0. Mossy oak tip was try an air horn. I even did that a minute ago. Nothing. Lol.

I've had a dang good year so far, I've heard more vocal hens this year than ever, and the first week of season afternoon gobbling was off the charts. They seem to have slowed down as well as I have to. Waiting to get off work again now
