Vest Alternatives

By the end of season , when it gets hot, I have a mouth call in my mouth, shotgun in hand , and thats it. I start with everything under the sun. My vest gets lighter as season goes. Then I end up leaving vest in truck.

I have always used a waist belt.

I tried some that already had the pouches attached, but ended up just going to a belt and then added individual pouches that I got at WalMart. I put my slate and strikers in the outside pocket of the pouch on my left side, and my mouth calls are in the outside pocket on the pouch on my right side.

I have two more pouches in back for other various items. If interested let me know, and I can take a pic of it with some other alterations I did to make it better to my liking.

I like a very light vest myself, I went to one with basically just straps across the shoulders. The lighter and cooler the better imo.

I don't yet have a vest and will be filling up my 6 pocket cargo pants with all the stuff I need including some TP, a camera and binocs.

Mine just has straps and a seat cushion, that's about all that has servived. It has been around awhile and fought many battles. I don't really carry much at all, I just like the seat cushion. Matter of fact when the straps break I may just tie the seat cushion to my belt. Them roots and rocks don't sit well.

I bought one of the $15 turkey seats a few yrs ago. I can strap my decoys under it to carry when I take them. I also have a home-made camo cushion that I wear around my waist for my back. The seat is one thing that I can't do without. Getting above the roots and rocks makes long-sits so much easier.

This is what I use.

These pouches had some kind of locking tabs on them to work with a pre-made belt I guess. So, I cut them off.

Also, I used zip ties to shorten the belt loop so that the pouches would be less likely to flip upside down as you can see here:

I looked at an H.S. Strut fanny pack type deal with a bunch of pockets at Walmart today. I think it would be a pretty good alternative to a vest. That said, I do like a vest when I take everything.
