It was months ago I said this team was deeper than the 18-19 team. They've certainly tested that theory in the last few weeks but I think it holds true if they're playing up to their potential. Top to bottom they're as talented as any UT team I remember, but they really struggle with consistency, obviously.
The one glaring difference I've realized is the team from 2 years ago had 3 real alphas: Grant, Admiral & Lamonte never hesitated to take a shot. Even if Lamonte had gone 0-fer he wouldn't hesitate to knock down a big shot late. I think Keon & Springer can be those guys, and hopefully this is the start of that. Much as I love the Fulk & Pons, I think they lack that killer instinct, at least on the offensive end.
If we're going to be great everybody has to play better but I think we know who the go-to guys are now when we're struggling offensively. If Fulky can't play better and stay out of foul trouble we're going to struggle with size.
Always feels great to win at Rupp even if these aren't the cats of old. I'd like to think it was solely our defensive pressure that started the comeback, but if I'm being honest it seemed as much like UK just lost their confidence & things spiraled. Likely a combination of both and our offensive aggressiveness was fun to watch and kept the pressure on.
