Hey guys! I'm wanting to try the traditional archery route. Mostly just to shoot for fun and eventually deer hunt. I have no idea where to start. Is there anywhere close to me that I can go look @ and shoot bows? Also, what you the start up cost be for a traditional newbie. Thanks in advance!

I'm just up here in Brewstertown. If you want to come by some evening and try out my bows you're more than welcome. I have a recurve and a longbow.

Consider yourself warned...trad shoot'n is highly addictive, dont say I didnt tell ya so.

You can find a good bow to learn on for about $100-$150-$200, Bear Grizzly,Kodiak, Super Kodiac, search Craigs list or here http://tradgang.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb. ... aysPrune=0

You can spend what ya want, but you dont have to, take 348Win up on his offer first just to get some hands on, sounds like a good guy to offer.

Get the DVD "Masters Of The Bare Bow", its a tutorial on shooting recurves & long bows, thers I think 4 volumes in the set but the first one has plenty of info on form, sevral shoot'n styles & tips.

I just started myself. I was told many many times to start light then work up. I thought 45lbs was light enough .Wish I'd got a 40 or even 35 to start.A lot different holding back a long bow VS a Compound.Good Luck

i made my longbow out of a hickory tree we cut down. alot of hours and a couple of bows made into firewood later. It is fun and challenging. never killed a deer with mine. makes u think differently as a hunter though. much more like a trapper. inside 20 yards as opposed to 40
