I copied this from the comments section on govols247. It sums up why I am a huge Josh Dobbs fan:
The summer before Joshua's freshman year I met with my old roommate, Dr. Chris Pionke. Chris was scheduled to have Joshua for both semesters of honors physics that year. Chris was skeptical. He noted that, while Darwin Walker had majored in civil engineering, he didn't think it possible that a football player could major in aerospace engineering- let alone a quarterback. I told Joshua's mother Stephanie about this and she asked me to set up a meeting before the semester- so that Joshua could hear that firsthand. She knew it would motivate Joshua.
As the team flew back from Oregon that year, there was one light on in the cabin. It was Joshua, studying for Dr. Pionke's physics test. This story was recounted on ESPN when Joshua was thrown into the lion's den his freshman year at Alabama. I saw Chris near the end of the first semester. He said, "you know, I may be wrong." I said, "he's that smart, huh?" He said, "yes, but more than that, he may be the nicest kid I've ever met."
Joshua is taking 16 hours this semester, leaving him only 6 hours to take in the spring. Think about that. He will finish a 5 year program in one of the University's most demanding majors in 4 years- while playing quarterback and having started in each of his 4 years. And- by the way- he has also taken enough hours to complete a minor in business.
As you watch Joshua run through the T this Saturday, you should know this. There have been better players, although Joshua has been really good. There was at least one better quarterback, but Joshua has been a good one. But, there has never... never been a better student-athlete-citizen. At the end of the day, that is what we would want for all of our kids. Remember that on Saturday.
